Moony

2002

Moony 2002. Vinyl and nylon. 500 pearls on a surface of 26 x 7 m.

This intervention has its origins in an ancient Persian legend that tells how rain, when it falls on dry land, gives birth to wheat, and when it falls on the sea, pearls are born.

Tears of a serene moon, feminine, daughters of darkness and mystery, pearls enclose the most precious myths and legends that intertwine like underwater seaweed to adore their pearly perfection.
Inspired by the richness of this symbolism, artist Monique Bastiaans adds and recreates her own exaggerated version of the genesis of pearls, combining irony and legend within the framework of nature.
