Mediodía se celebra en el interior

2001

Midday is celebrated indoors 2001. Red de nylon. 5,6 x 4 x 4 m.

What is true and what is false?

Intervention within a pine forest: integrated into its surroundings, a body constructed from four small, spindle-shaped, transparent net tubes with a latticework appears as a natural phenomenon. It is defined both by its transparent and ethereal exterior form and by its inner strength, creating a channel of vertical energy communication. A channel that unites heaven and earth, unites and embraces all possible worlds: those of the earthly and those of the transcendent, the world of reality and the world of ideas. In a play with light and darkness, due to its transparency and its ability to be visible or invisible, it creates the effect of a fantasy or apparition that moves between dream and reality.
This work, full of nuances and subtleties, creates a space for communication with the universe and with our inner selves.

NUR Project
These distinctive acronyms, NUR, which stand for "Nature, Utopias and Realities," were the focus of the first International Contemporary Art Meeting held recently at Finca de Osorio, a protected natural area near the city of Las Palmas, in the Gran Canarian municipality of Teror. This project uses nature as the backdrop for a series of artistic interventions carried out in situ.
by different creators, from Spain and other parts of the world, who have been living together in this place for several weeks... With these premises, Monique Bastiaans, a Dutch artist based in Spain, presented one of the best installations that could be seen in Osorio.
This work consists of four concentric cylinders made of a dense mesh, resting on the ground and suspended between pine trees, suggesting a conduit, a channel through which energy flows between heaven and earth. A space of communication with which Bastiaans likes to interact, very much in line with other projects.

Monique Bastiaans transforms Odapark into a magical forest

… Truly fascinating is Midday, which is celebrated inside. The radiance of this work is marvelous: only through its layers does the weaving become visible in the surroundings. Where the nets touch the ground, the weaving dissolves into a carpet of fallen leaves. However subtle Bastiaans's use of materials is, the expressiveness of the five-and-a-half-meter-high sculpture is as overwhelming as a cyclone in the forest…
